999111 was launched in 2016 using WhatsApp as a platform to help connect Locum GPs with Practices for free. It was started by myself at a time when I was transitioning from being a GP Partner to a Locum GP.

Over time the network has grown to several thousand members and practices.

Several Facebook groups were also started along the way to help connect colleagues with one another as well as experts who could help in both their professional and personal lives.

The network has started to be been monetised since 2025 (see sponsorship page), 9 years after having been run for free by myself. This is to compensate for the huge increase in size of the network, a large and growing workload, increased expectations from the members and the increased level of legal and regulatory risk involved due to its size.
